01 Description of Research

As a sociologist, my focus is on labor, technology, and organization. My research investigates the interactions, scope, and consequences of digitalization processes, particularly in relation to the transformation of work and organizations. It is important to note that digital technologies are not static objects, but rather are developed within a social context and shaped by society. In addition, the integration of digital technologies into working practice and the differences in their appropriation must be examined in the particular context of use.

According to my research field, my research at the Tokyo College focuses on the integration of digital technologies into work practices and the analysis of differences in their appropriation. In order to achieve this, I am using ethnographic methods to analyze the modes of use in terms of the theory of practice.

In terms of sociology of work, I am working on my dissertation at the Social Science Research Center Berlin (WZB), which examines the impact of digitalization on the craft sector. Specifically, I am examining changes in working practices within craft enterprises and how the introduction of digital technologies is affecting both work and employees. To conduct this research, I am utilizing a qualitative approach that combines case studies of craft enterprises with expert interviews.
