Discretionary Labor System for Specialized Work

Consenting to the Application of the Discretionary Labor System for Professional Work System

The University of Tokyo applies the Discretionary Labor System for Professional Work to all researchers. This means that you are not required to conduct your work during a set time every weekday. Instead, you manage your own time and decide how best to carry out your work.

The 2024 reform of the Labor Standards Act requires that we obtain your explicit consent to continue applying this system. Once given, the consent or non-consent can be changed by contacting us.

You would not be treated disadvantageously for not giving the consent, but in that case, the law would require us to manage your work hours as follows:

- 7 hours and 45 minutes of specified working hours each day as a rule.

- All education and research work would need to be conducted within these specified working hours.

- You would need to clock in and out each day using the university’s time management system.

In order to give your consent, please read the second page of the form below, fill in the first page, and submit it to us.
