Moving out - 東京カレッジ

Moving out

This information applies if you rented an apartment or other unit on your own.

*Note: In order to move out of International Lodge, you must submit a termination form to the lodge janitor between two months and two weeks prior to your departure date. (The deadline for submitting the form varies by lodge.) You don’t need to inform utility vendors to shut down the services.

1

Move-out date notification

Decide on your move-out date and notify both the Tokyo College Office and the landlord within the notice period specified in the rental contract.

2

Utilities (incl. gas, water/sewage, electricity, internet, mobile phones)

Contact utility services to shut down the relevant service. Staff from these services will visit your apartment on the inspection day, and you can pay the final fee in cash. Don't forget to cancel your contract with your mobile phone provider and internet service provider, as well.

3

Room cleaning and restoration

You are usually charged at least a minimum cleaning fee no matter how much you clean your apartment. However, if the room is badly damaged or dirty and in need of repair, additional fees may be required. If you leave anything, even a piece of trash, you might be charged extra for disposing of the trash.

For disposing of furniture and appliances, consider finding someone else who can take it. You can also arrange for second-hand shops or recycle centers run by city hall or the ward office to take them away for a fee.

4

Move-out inspection

You will have an apartment inspection, and you will need to return all keys you received from the realtor when you moved in. If you return fewer keys than you received, you will be charged a fee to change the locks.
