Employment Insurance
The employment insurance system provides various benefits to unemployed workers to ensure their day-to-day lives while supporting their efforts to find new employment.
All researchers who fulfill the below criteria* are required to enroll in Employment Insurance (雇用保険). Employment insurance benefits include financial assistance in the event that one becomes unemployed, as well as grants for retraining and education after becoming unemployed. Those required to enroll will have the premium automatically deducted from their salary on a monthly basis. The University of Tokyo submits the necessary paperwork to the Public Employment Security Office (Hello Work) on behalf of employees.
You will be issued an Employment Insurance Certificate, so please keep it in a safe place.
*Criteria
・Those who have a prospect of being employed for over 31 days
・Those who work for a weekly total of 20 hours or more
・The employee’s weekly total working hours, wages, and other employment conditions are detailed on the ‘Employment Notification’ document (雇用通知書) or equivalent document.
