Distinguished University Professor Makoto FUJITA Elected Foreign Honorary Member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences

Makoto Fujita, Distinguished Professor at Tokyo College, has been elected a Foreign Honorary Member  of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. The American Academy of Arts and Sciences is an academic organization that was founded in 1780 by John Adams, James Bowdoin, and John Hancock to promote scholarship and work in the arts. Fellows and Foreign Honorary Members are elected annually by ballot, and the Academy currently has more than 5,700 active members, with 250 new members elected in 2025. Foreign Honorary Members include Charles Darwin, Albert Einstein, Winston Churchill, Laurence Olivier, Mary Leakey, John Maynard Keynes, Akira Kurosawa, and Nelson Mandela.
