Passing Away of Sir Anthony J. Leggett
Sir Anthony J. Leggett, Honorary President of Tokyo College and 2003 Nobel Prize Laureate in Physics, passed away on the morning of March 8, 2026. He was 87 years old.
Born in London in 1938, Leggett revolutionized low-temperature physics through his theoretical research on superfluid helium-3, and was awarded the 2003 Nobel Prize in Physics for his pioneering work.
His humble and warm personality, generous support for young researchers, and endless academic curiosity deeply impressed many. When Tokyo College was founded, he offered specific advice on its philosophy and the direction of its activities, drawing on his broad academic insight, and he also gave exemplary lectures.
We offer our deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathies.
