人間と環境の相互関係を、人類学的および学際的な方法を通じて探究。環境ガバナンス、政治生態学、そして生態人類学・経済人類学の理論的知見を統合しながら、持続可能な社会―生態システムへの道筋を検討するプロジェクトに取り組む。
現在は、学際的かつ脱植民地主義的なアプローチを通じて、山岳地域の社会―生態システムにおける持続可能性の実現に向けた道を探っている。ホンジュラスで行っている長期的なプロジェクトでは、コーヒー生産者協同組合と協働し、気候変動や政治経済的な危機の中で、農民たちが生計や環境の持続可能性を改善するためにどのような戦略をとっているのかを評価している。
また、国際的な研究協調ネットワークの一環として、山岳地域のコミュニティや研究者たちと連携しながら、西洋的知と先住民・伝統的知識の統合を通じて、気候変動への適応力、地域資源を地域住民が協力して管理する仕組み（コモンズ・ガバナンス）、地域に根ざした自然資源管理の支援にも取り組んでいる。より広くは、地球規模の変化プロセス、生物文化的保全、信念体系、人権といったテーマの相互関係についても研究を行っている。
