The main objective of my research is to investigate the relation between technology and care through a comparative Franco-Japanese study on communicative assistive robots in nursing homes. Through the analysis of data obtained by two qualitative methods, interviews and participant observation, in nursing homes in Tokyo and Paris, this research also seeks to explore how the relationship between older adults and caregivers changes through the use of robots. By comparing Japan and France, I am also interested in identifying elements of the concept of “autonomy” of older adults in need of care through the presence of care robots.
